How to Remove Visible Veins

Vein & Laser Center Woman's legs

On a hot summer day, when the sun is shining and beating down on you, there are few things better than laying by the pool and spending time outdoors. It’s the perfect time of year to put on that cute summer dress or that not too short pair of shorts, and enjoy the day while being cool and comfortable. But, to the dismay of may, it’s also the time of year when our bodies are most on display; namely, our legs.

During the colder months, it’s easy to hide the physical attributes we are uncomfortable with under layers of clothing. But in the summer, everything is on display, for better or for worse. For those that feel insecure about the appearance of their legs, there is nothing that causes more anxiety than the thought of your beach body being ruined by the presence of visible veins. While you can take comfort in the fact that everyone’s legs have visible veins, there are things you can do to dramatically decrease their appearance and radically increase your self-confidence!

Here are a few ways that people like you are choosing to treat their visible veins before the summer season arrives:

Self-Care
If you needed an excuse to treat yourself and focus on you, this is it! Taking some time and practicing common (and relaxing) self-care methods can be effective when it comes to treating spider and varicose veins. Getting exercise, elevating your legs, taking a quick walk every 30 minutes if your job requires you to sit for long periods of time are all great practices. While self-care methods can prevent new spider and varicose veins from becoming prominent, they cannot remove existing ones.

Buy Compression Stockings
I bet you didn’t expect to hear us say THAT when it comes to preventing visible spider and varicose veins! Compression stockings will apply a steady pressure to your legs that will allow blood to move from your legs back to your heart. This steady pressure will alleviate swelling you your lower legs and will reduce the risk of a blood clot.

Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy, according to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, is the most common method in the nation when it comes to reducing the appearance of spider and varicose veins. During a typical procedure, a dermatologist will inject a chemical into the vein before massaging the area and placing a compression stocking on the leg. We at Vein and Laser recommend at least 2-3 sclerotherapy sessions in order to see optimal results, which means that those pesky spider veins will be gone in as little as 3 to 6 weeks.

Laser Treatments
During a laser treatment session, laser light is directed right at the varicose and spider vein you are trying to remove. This light can destroy the vein and its appearance without causing damage to your skin. While small spider veins often disappear immediately after treatment, we at Vein and Laser recommend 3 or more treatments in order to completely remove larger and darker veins.

Because summer will be here before you know it, don’t waste another season being uncomfortable in the skin you are in. This year, be proud to show off your beautiful body; wear those shorts and that swimsuit with pride as you show off your legs, legs that are free of visible veins.
